The larger the graphic image, the longer it takes to load a page. The number of colors required by a graphic has an influence on the size of the graphic - particularly is some of the colors are custom colors.
The CASNET logo, for example, is approximately 36 kilobytes in size, and utilizes 39 colors to achieve the text and background. If we restricted the logo to 16 colors, it would reduce the size of the logo to around 33 kilobytes - however would result in a loss of some brilliance.
An alternate approach would be to reduce the size of the logo. As an example, the following logo dimensions have been decreased by approximately 25% which reduces it's size to 22 kilobytes. Note that by reducing the size, the text characters have become more jagged appearing.
